3 Summer Food Ideas For Your Pet Dog

As the summer season is upon us, it is time to take extra care of our furry little friends to help them beat the summer heat. Apart from the temperature control in your home, the thing you need to focus on is your dog’s diet.

The summer season is hugely responsible for pet dehydration, heatstroke, and several issues. It is important for us (the dog owners) to ensure that our pet dog gets the right care and attention to beat summer-related issues. We need to keep them healthy, hydrated and fed.

It is common to notice during the summers that the dogs begin to lose their appetite. It is largely due to the heat and excess drinking of water.

The foods that you give them during winter might not be as appealing to them during summers. So, here are some interesting summer foods to keep your dogs healthy and full.

Best Summer Treats for Your Dog

#1. Frozen chicken soup cubes

Dogs love ice! If you haven’t tried it, you must. They will go nuts over an ice cube and it is pretty amusing to watch. You can use ice to create some creative and nutritious recipes that your dog will love.

What you can do is prepare chicken soup for them with all the nutritious veggies like broccoli, carrots, etc. Avoid using salt in the soup though! Once the soup is prepared, you can pour the soup with chicken pieces into the ice trays and let it freeze.

You can serve these ice cubes to them separately or with boiled and slightly warmed rice. The whole meal is quite nutritious and your dog will love to feast on the ice cubes.

#2. Yogurt Mix

We always recommend yogurt for pet dogs. They have good bacteria that help with boosting your dog’s digestive system. You can create a yogurt mix by adding fruits and veggies in them such as blueberries, bananas, apples, papayas, etc.

You can freeze the yogurt mix or semi-cool it. You can also prepare a healthy home meal by adding chapatis. Just ensure to keep the mixture cool enough for your dog to enjoy.

#3. Fresh Carrots & Watermelon

Carrot

Carrots are a great source of fiber and dogs enjoy the crunchy feeling when they feast on it. Carrots tend to be good for your dog’s teeth as well.

These days carrots are available during all seasons and they serve an excellent source of fiber that you can give your dog during summer.

Watermelons are a good substitute food item that you can give your dog during the summers. They are rich in water content and sweet in flavor.

Dogs love to feast on watermelons and they also help regulate the water level in your dog’s body, keeping them hydrated.

However, ensure to weed out the seeds before you serve them as the seeds of the watermelon can cause digestive issues in your dog.

Lastly, keep a close eye on your dog’s diet during the summers and ensure that they are kept in a cool environment.

If you own a foreign breed dog, this is a priority for you. The proper atmosphere at home along with nutritious food is a must to ensure the good health of your dog.
