Recently, a group of alert stray dogs foiled a robbery attempt in the house of Dr Vishakha Shukla, a resident of sector 14, Indiranagar, on Sunday night, when she was out for a movie.
According to reports, 2 burglars tried to enter the house of Dr Vishakha by breaking the lock of the gate. But they were not aware that the street dogs were resting inside the house because they were given food daily by Dr Vishakha Shukla and had developed loyalty towards her and her house. When the burglars tried to enter the main compound by breaking away the door, the dogs started barking and one of the dogs bit a burglar on his foot.
Taken aback by the unexpected canine attack, the burglar took out his knife and attacked the dogs but they fought valiantly and kept on barking till the neighbours came out. The wounded burglars then ran away from the house.

Neighbours informed Vishakha about the burglary attempt in her house and she rushed back.
“People think a large dog would be a good deterrent, but today it was proved that Indian dogs, despite their smaller size, are more courageous and intelligent. Indian dogs are extremely loyal. They are also very energetic. That’s why they fought with the thieves despite being stabbed repeatedly,”said Dr Vishakha .
Animal rights activist Kamna Pandey said, “We want more and more people to adopt local dogs because local breeds are evolved to best suit native climate and conditions. Most of the times the understanding of the dog matches with the society.”
However, police were informed and a report was lodged against unidentified thieves.
After the incident, now the entire colony wants to adopt Indian dogs and many of them want to feed street dogs to save their homes.
