Arlington, Virginia: As Hurricane Idea approaches landfall on Sunday, hundreds of people are being forced to flee, forcing an emergency hurricane rescue to get as many shelter dogs out of the storm’s path as possible.
Several shelters and rescue organizations in the D.C. area are responding to the appeal to take in as many animals as possible as soon as possible.
Lucky Dog Animal Rescue, which was able to find fosters to take in evacuated pups from Mississippi shelters, was one of the first deliveries of dogs on Sunday.
The dogs that arrived on Sunday are the first of many that Roberts expects to arrive in the coming days and weeks. She anticipates hundreds of people coming to her aid in a variety of situations.
Another rescue taking in dogs and cats in Hurricane Ida’s path is Homeward Trails Animal Rescue. The first animal shipment is expected to arrive at the rescue on Monday morning.
