Siddhi, one of the most popular police sniffer dogs from Navi Mumbai’s Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) is going to retire soon. Siddhi is a female Labrador who’s going to turn 10 years old this year! She has been an excellent recruit to the the Mumbai Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad, with many heroics attached to her name and it is time for her to retire and start a new life.
Samadhan Chavan, an assistant inspector of BDDS Navi Mumbai, was quoted saying “Siddhi is among the best sniffer dogs we’ve had so far. She has worked methodically on each case of bomb alarm.”
PSI J Gaikwad from Police dog unit explained that it is normal to retire a service dog at this age. Service dogs are often given to animal shelters or NGOs after they retire. Often police personnel adopt these dogs because they share such a close bond with these animals during their service.
He added that before sending dogs to a shelter or handing them over to a NGO, they make sure that they are legit and will take good care of the dogs. Regular checks are also conducted to make sure that the dogs are living their retirement life in a homely and lovely environment.
We salute Siddhi for her service to the nation and wish her all the best for a new beginning!
