A man faces charges of animal cruelty and other offenses after police say he fatally shot a dog at a Connecticut condominium complex as its owners tried to catch it and two children watched in horror.
Jessica Aurilio of Cromwell told WTNH that her boyfriend’s 1-year-old German shorthaired pointer Ally jumped a gate to chase a bird Sunday morning. As she and her boyfriend ran after the dog, Aurilio said a man who lives at the complex pulled out a gun and shot the dog with Aurilio’s two children present.
Bardsley Monfilston, 31, was charged Sunday with unlawful discharge of a firearm, animal cruelty, and two counts of child endangerment, police said. He was released on a $10,000 bond to await a court appearance. It was unclear if he has a lawyer to comment on.
“It was a very traumatizing experience for my daughter and my son as well,” said Aurilio. “No child should have to be around anyone with a gun in broad daylight in the neighborhood.”
