Grieving Mother Dog Adopts 10 Puppies

Princeton, Minnesota: A dog lost her entire litter and was seriously depressed and grieving when she started caring for ten newborns who just lost their mother during birth.

Recently, a dog named Poppy gave birth to 10 pups. However, during the last delivery, some complications came up, resulting in the mother’s death.

Poppy was a rescue dog and was living in an animal rescue shelter in Princeton, Minnesota. She got adopted by the Johnson family. After Poppy’s demise, Johnson’s knew that they had to act swiftly to ensure that the newborns stay alive.

Soon they head about another grieving dog who just lost her puppies. The dog’s name was Pepper. Johnson’s asked Pepper’s handlers if they can arrange a visit for Pepper to their home and see how she reacts to the newborn pups at their home.

Johnson said that the Pepper immediately took to the pups and started taking care of them as soon as they placed the puppies around her. Then, she started nursing them without a thought.

“I cried again last night, but these tears were happy tears,” Johnson said in a Facebook post. “Tears knowing that mama Poppy would be so appreciative of Pepper taking over the mama role.”

In another post, Johnson wrote, “The babies were all thriving with their humans, but the best place for them is with a mama who can not only give them some good milk but teach them dog things, behaviors we as humans can’t.”
