A man named Sambhunath Dhali has been booked on the charges of biting off a stray dog’s ear in a drunken condition. The accused is identified as a resident of Hooghly district of West Bengal.
A construction labourer, Dhali is an alcoholic man and used to sleep on the pavements beside a busy road in Uttarpara. Every night he returned to the locality in a drunken condition and disturbed the neighbourhood.
He often faced the local stray dogs, who would bark at him. On 2nd September, when he was walking on the road in an intoxicated condition, the stray dogs started barking, the man turned around, grabbed a mongrel from the pack and bit off its ear. After that Dhali was immediately attacked by the rest of the pack but managed to shoo them away.
After the incident, the dog with bleeding ear was spotted by the neighbours, who came running to the street and got hold of Dhali. He was beaten by the crowd, who later handed him over to the police.
Dhali has been produced in the court on 3 September and has been ordered to stay in Jail.
