Chennai: Airport authorities have inducted two sniffer dogs to detect the smuggling of narcotic substances at Chennai airport.

Two well-trained Labrador retriever dogs named Orio and Orly, trained at the K9 training center in Amritsar, were inducted at a function on Wednesday.

Airport officials said that dogs will help them detect narcotics smuggling. “We have seen many cases in the last year. Recently also there were two to three attempts to smuggle contraband by hiding them in the rectum, the dogs will be useful to detect such attempts.”

They will be deployed in the cargo, postal cargo, and passenger terminal units.

“Sniffer dogs are there in Trichy, Kochi, and a few more airports. They were part of the first batch trained in our center.
