Selling or serving dog meat falls under a legal grey area in South Korea and it was assured by the government of South Korea that there will be no selling of dog meat during Winter Olympics. However, some new photos have come up on social media that reveals consumption of dog meat.
This news has created an outrage among the animal lovers across the globe.
What the South Korean Government said?
Before the 2018 Winter Olympics, the South Korean government asked 12 restaurants in the Pyeongchang region which sells dog meat, to stop doing this during the event. But the practice hasn’t ceased, citing consumer demand.

The Moran market in Seongnam, the country’s largest open-air dog market, is located just outside of Seoul and is around 70 miles away the PyeongChang Stadium, where the Winter Olympics began on 9th February 2018.
Authorities claimed the dog meat trade was supposed to close in May last year but the practice has just become more hidden. South Koreans kill an estimated two million dogs each year for food, consuming 100,000 metric tons of dog meat, according to the Animal Welfare Institute in Washington, D.C.
