Municipality, Dog Feeders, And Residents Control Stray Dogs Together: Say Activists

Experts and animal rights activists believe that stray dog aggression can be handled if the municipality, dog feeders, and residents work jointly.

The residents and dog-lover community are again at loggerheads after two kids have been allegedly mauled to death by stray dogs in the national capital.

While residents are requesting to remove stray dogs from the streets completely, animal lovers state it can’t be done as several people’s control lies in the municipal corporation’s hands.

However, animal rights activists say that any stray showing aggression shall be removed from the locality immediately.

“Our municipal corporations are failing in the execution of the Supreme Court’s orders. They are the ones who are responsible for the spaying of dogs and controlling their population. Such incidents are rising due to the incessant rise in the stray dog population. If the number of strays remains limited in a locality, dogs will not bite humans, forget about mauling kids,” the founder of Sophie Memorial Trust and renowned animal rights activist, Kaveri Rana Bhardwaj stated.

Some people love stray dogs and feed them, but in incidents like that, they are often targeted by some residents. However, experts state that feeding is not a bad thing for a dog, but someone must take the responsibility of spaying street dogs.

“There have been many incidents where some dog feeders have not allowed the removal of such dogs from the locality who have shown early signs of aggression. This is not good for society. As a dog lover, one cannot ignore early signs of aggression that lead to bigger incidents. Such dogs shall be immediately removed from the locality and shall be put under observation till their behavior is not changed,” said Kaveri.
