A canine doppelgänger for an Alberta dog loved for his distinctly unique appearance is ready to be reunited.
Brodie, a German shepherd-border collie mix whose distinctive face has gained him social media popularity, will soon have a new companion at his Red Deer, Alta., home – a rescue dog with similar facial impairments from Houston, Texas.
Brodie, who has nearly half a million Instagram followers and roughly 3,000 Facebook fans, has a “wonky face,” according to his owner Amanda Richter.
His snout curls in all directions, one of the eyes bulges out of its socket. From his crooked jaw, his tongue lolls lazily.
Brodie was gnawed on the forehead by his mama when he was a pup, resulting in facial injuries and the loss of one eye.
Brodie, Ritcher reasoned, was a one-of-a-kind individual. So she couldn’t believe her eyes when she saw his doppelganger on the Facebook page of a Houston animal sanctuary a few weeks ago.
Raven, a female German shepherd mix with a bent snout, crooked smile, and loose tongue, were up for adoption, much like Brodie.
Ritcher has adopted the puppy and is currently working on getting her to her new home in Alberta.
Raven was likely born with her uncommon facial traits, and she wants to give her a decent life.
In September 2019, she and her companion, Brad Ames, rescued him from a kennel in Ponoka, Alta.
After scrolling through Brodie’s photo on social media, Richter fell in love with his deformed face right away. She soon began chronicling his exploits on social media sites like Facebook and Instagram.
Brodie’s unique appearance and outgoing personality have garnered him tens of thousands of fans. As a result, people in magazines and publications worldwide have featured him. Soon, he’ll be sharing the spotlight — and his preferred bedside position.
Thanks to a little help from Brodie’s supporters, his new playmate is anticipated to reach Alberta by the end of the month.
Ritcher stated that once Raven’s adoption application was granted, the practicalities of arranging cross-border transit for the dog were onerous.
To help cover the transportation costs, she started an internet fundraising drive. The campaign met its goal within an hour and has already raised nearly $8,000.
The transfer will be organized by Puppy Rescue Mission, a Texas-based nonprofit that mostly helps to reconnect military people with animals they adopted during overseas deployments. Raven will be whisked away from her current residence at the Fuzzy Texan Animal Rescue and flown to Seattle. After that, she’ll be driven across the border into Canada by a volunteer.
Raven’s medical charges, expenses, and certificates required to cross the border will be covered by the funds received.
