A 65-year-old died after several dogs attacked him in Alabama, officials say. Jefferson County deputies said a passerby spotted the man’s body lying on the road just before 7 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 28.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the victim Wednesday as Joe Cleveland Scott. He was 65 and lived in the Mcdonald’s Chapel community where the attack happened.
Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies arrived and discovered the man unresponsive. He was pronounced dead on the scene at 7:08 a.m.
Money said there were six large dogs around Scott when they reached. The attack is believed to have happened at 6:49 a.m.
Animal control had to be called to trap the dogs before investigators could begin their probe. The trapping took more than an hour.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and Jefferson County Animal Control are investigating.
“It is unusual for somebody to be attacked,” Money said. “My understanding from these neighbors is these dogs have been in the area for a while and have not been aggressive.” The dogs have been euthanized.
