Oregon, USA: Lou, a coonhound, has earned a spot in the Guinness World Records for having extravagantly long ears. She broke the record for the longest ears on a living dog with 13.38 inches apiece, earning her a spot in the Guinness World Record 2022 book.
Her owner said that everyone wants to touch Lou’s ears. They just fall in love with Lou after seeing her just once. She also stated that all black and tan coonhounds usually have long ears, but Lou’s are longer than any other dog in the world for now.
When tracking in the field, their long ears drag on the ground and stir up aromas. It enables them to follow long, very old, or ‘cold’ traces that other dog breeds may miss.
Here is what Guinness posted on their Instagram account:
Lou’s owner decided to measure Lou’s ears when he was sheltering in place during the COVID-19 outbreak. Surprisingly, she stated that they don’t require much upkeep and inspect them for cleanliness once a month.
According to Guinness, Lou’s new record joins many previous accolades she’s achieved from the American Kennel Club and Rally Obedience.
