Goat and Dog Duo Living an Inseparable Bond at Wake County Shelter

RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD), There is a duo staying at the Wake County Animal Center. A dog and a goat are sharing a kennel and are snapped by staff cuddling them.

Director Dr. Jennifer Federico states usually you don’t mix species, but these two animals have a unique bond, unlike anything the staff has ever noticed.
“It shows things are possible and they don’t see the difference,” stated Federico.

In the playing area, the duo is running around and chasing each other.
They are named Cinnamon, the goat, and the dog is Felix.

Cinnamon is extremely connected to Felix. The goat will groan and cry if the dog is taken away.
On Wednesday, Cinnamon and Felix are brought to a new home together with an out-of-state rescue organization.

The Wake County Animal Center director assures that the duo is staying and going to a family in NC.

The duo originally came to the shelter in custody as the owner was hospitalized and they both were surrendered.

‘That’s not a normal combination,” Federico stated. “Usually, we have dogs attacking goats so this is just a very unusual group.”

The staff isn’t certain about their age, but have learned enough that the goat is house-trained.

“These guys obviously have been raised together and spent a lot of time together,” Federico says.
“This is not the ideal environment for a goat to stay long-term,” he added. “Cinnamon is so attached to Felix, to just cold separate them would not be humane.”

There has been an interest, but mainly in Cinnamon.
Staff is concerned about if they separate the duo, and try to sell them together.

“They get along great. They hang out in their kennel. Even with the stress of the shelter, they’ve been doing great, so they’re kind of a cute pair,” Federico added.
