We have heard lots of train incidents in the recent times, but this incident is one of a kind. Recently, a motorman of a local train stopped a train to save a stray dog standing on the tracks, in order to avoid running over him at Churchgate station of the Western Railway in Mumbai.
The incident happened yesterday afternoon when a local train stopped before entering the station. The motorman saw a dog on the tracks and stopped the train. He blew the horn but the dog did not move and stood its ground. The nonstop blowing of the horn attracted travelers from other platforms but did not seem to have an effect on the dog who stood on the tracks, facing the train.
Eventually, someone who was waiting for the train at the station got down on to the tracks and lifted the dog to safety amid the applause of the onlookers. There was a rush to laud the rescuer and also the motorman for saving the dog’s life.
The motorman, R P Meena, told PTI that it was all in a day’s work for him. Told that he had done a wonderful thing, the railway employee merely shrugged, saying “it is nothing.”
The entire incident ended on a happy note for the canine.
