40 Stray Dogs Poisoned To Death In Vellore

Recently, around 40 stray dogs poisoned to death in Vellore. The stray dogs were allegedly killed by injecting a lethal drug in Vellore township, managed by BHEL, a public sector company, near Ranipet.

A case has been lodged following a complaint by a veterinary doctor of the animal husbandry. The SIPCOT (State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu) police registered the case under the provisions of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.

40 Stray dogs poisoned

Collector S.A. Raman received a complaint from T.B. Somanathan, an animal activist that around 40 stray dogs were poisoned to death near Ranipet.

“I have instructed the officials of the department to verify the facts and take appropriate action,” the collector said.

Somanathan claimed that official of a public sector company near Ranipet administered lethal injection on around 40 dogs and buried their carcasses in the riverbed near Trivalam Bridge.

“The incident came to light after I received a call from Menaka Gandhi on Thursday. She told me that she received an e-mail from a resident of the township that stray dogs had been killed by administering lethal injection,” Somanathan said.

Police found the spot

The police identified the spot where the stray dogs were buried and also caught the driver who drove the dead dogs to the riverbed. The bodies would be exhumed today for Post-mortem.
