A baby girl was allegedly mauled to death by at least one dog (pitbull) in an Akron home. According to Akron police spokesperson Lt. Michael Miller, the incident occurred at 10:30 a.m. at a house on the 300 block of Westmoreland Street in the city’s Firestone Park area. Officers arrived at the scene to find a 16-month-old girl critically hurt.
The girl was transferred to Akron Children’s Hospital, where she died, according to Miller.
Investigators discovered that a quarrel may have broken out between two people at the house. The guy and lady in the dispute are not the girl’s parents. During the altercation, at least one of the dogs in the house – identified by Akron police as pit bulls – “became agitated” and mauled the baby.
Miller stated that the baby girl will be autopsied by the Summit County Medical Examiner.
Her name has not yet been made public. The dogs were removed from the house by city animal control following the incident.
The investigation into the girl’s death is ongoing.
