“Where is the humanity?”
This is what we have been asking ourselves after learning about such a heinous act of killing!
On 15th of March, an ex-honorary flight lieutenant’s wife named Ponnamma allegedly killed 8 puppies that were born in a gutter under the entry gate of her home. The mother of these puppies “Ammu” is a stray dog that grew up in the locality. Some residents saw her digging up the graves of her dead puppies and trying to nurse them back.
She could be heard wailing thru the night, trying to get help for her dead puppies!
7 of the puppies died the first day and the last one died the next day. The outraged residents have filed a complaint with Cupa (Compassion Unlimited Plus Action) and the NGO registered a complaint against Ponnamma with the Peenya police.
What Ponnamma says
Residents protested the act and asked a clarification for her heinous act, she went on to say that she did this to teach the dog a lesson so that she doesn’t litter or come near her house again!
Police took action
Peenya police seized a vital footage caught in the CCTV near Ponnamma’s house. A case has been registered under Section 93 of the Karnataka Police Act (punishment for cruelty to animals) and Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, and IPC Section 429. If Ponnamma’s found guilty, she will be serving upto 5 years in prison.
“The accused was arrested and released on bail. We have procured CCTV footage and are putting together evidence. The investigation is on and the chargesheet will be submitted,” said B Aiyanna Redddy, police inspector, Peenya, revealed.
