In a bizarre incident, a dog was found buried alive in a San Bernardino field. Animal services officials rescued the dog on Thursday.
A report came in about a dog in distress in a remote field on the city’s north end. The San Bernardino Animal Services Department responded to the location and reached there about 9 a.m. After reaching the location, they heard a dog’s whimpering sound. However, they weren’t able to find the dog when they noticed a small black-and-white terrier mix dog buried in a hole up to its neck
The responding officers rescued the one-year-old dog by digging up the hole and then took the dog to a veterinarian for a checkup and medical treatment.
Dust and dirt were found in his lungs, which caused breathing problems for the puppy. The doctor gave fluids and antibiotics to stable the condition of the pup.
The dog is now under observation for the next 24 hours as the material in his lungs could cause further problems. The dog did not have any tag or microchip.
The Animal Services Department said that the dog’s medical care cost was covered by a grant from the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians.
Officials now believe that an incident is an intentional act of animal cruelty, and an investigation is underway. Anyone having information about the incident could call Animal services at 909-384-7272 and reference A540397.
