About Border Terrier

Border Terrier is known to be one of the oldest terriers of Great Britain. It is developed in the border territory surrounding the Cheviot Hills. Shepherds and farmers who need a dog with long legs enough to follow a horse, yet small enough to go ground after a fox, kept them pure for generations.

The Border Terrier originated in Northeast England, near the border with Scotland, during the 18th century. The breed is a result of the never-ending battle between foxes and farmers. Border Terriers have a long built, narrow, and flexible body.

The body is well built to squeeze through narrow holes and flush the foxes out of their hiding places. They have long legs enough to follow the horses during a foxhunt. Border Terrier is quite an unknown breed, and people prefer to stay that way if it means protecting him from the ravages of popularity.

Currently, the breed ranks 81st among the 155 breeds and varieties registered by the American Kennel Club. The Border Terrier is a small purebred known for being intelligent, independent, friendly, alert, and affectionate.
