GHMC Lists 27 Points to Curb Dog Bite Incidents

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has implemented several measures to prevent dog bites throughout the city.

According to officials, after a high-level committee chaired by mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi discussed the issue a few weeks ago, 21 steps were taken to address the matter.

Among the actions taken, deputy directors of the veterinary wing were tasked with identifying feeding locations for dogs and encouraging community animal guardians to follow Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) guidelines for the welfare of local dogs.

The GHMC reported an increase in sterilizations from 15% to 40% in various areas, with an additional 20 dog-catching vehicles to be added to the existing fleet of 30.

Furthermore, eight private veterinarians will be recruited to assist with the workload. A new shed, standing at 850 feet tall and with 20 additional kennels, is being constructed at the Chudi Bazaar shelter, accommodating an extra 80 dogs.

The GHMC also plans to establish new animal shelters in Katedan and Serilingampalli.

Officials cautioned meat vendors and hotels against dumping waste on the roads and revealed that 4,001 notices were issued to various establishments.

The GHMC hopes that these measures will effectively address the issue of dog bites and ensure the safety of residents across Hyderabad.
