According to the police, a 45-year-old Bengaluru truck driver was arrested, and his vehicle impounded for reportedly driving over a stray dog in Andheri (west) in the early hours of Monday.
According to the police, the incident occurred at about 1.45 a.m. near the Bharat Petroleum pump in the Kapaswadi district of Andheri (west). According to the authorities, a truck loaded with coconuts allegedly ran over the dog, killing it, and Simon Rodriques, a marketing expert who lives nearby, witnessed the incident.
Rodriques called the cops, who apprehended the truck driver on the scene. According to the police, the culprit, named Gausa Shaikh Pasha, was brought before a magistrate court and released on bail on a guarantee of INR 40,000.
The offender has been charged under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 279 (rash driving) and 429 (mischief by killing or maiming livestock, etc., of any value or any animal of the worth of fifty rupees) and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act section 11 (oppressing animals).
