The MHB Colony police have recently apprehended a man named Dheeraj Prasad for the brutal killing of a friendly stray dog in Shivaji Nagar, Borivali (west), located on the outskirts of IC Colony.
A resident named Payal Sharad Gund filed a First Information Report (FIR) against Prasad for his act of animal cruelty. The charges include violating IPC section 429 and Section 11(1)(a) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.
Gund, representing the animal lovers in the area, expressed gratitude to Senior Police Inspector Sudhir Kudalkar of MHB Colony for promptly taking action against the accused.
The deceased dog had been essential in the neighborhood, contributing to the community’s safety. The incident that occurred on August 24 highlights the issue of animal cruelty and impacts community security. The dog was a guardian and a beloved friend to many residents. Witnesses stated that the accused, Prasad, was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.
Senior PI Kudalkar, renowned within the animal welfare community for his support of feeders and activists dealing with animal cruelty cases, emphasized the need for extensive awareness of animal protection laws. This awareness could discourage individuals with negative intentions from harming animals. Kudalkar has formed the ‘PAL’ (Pure Animal Lovers) group, which includes activists and legal experts. This group aims to take legal measures against instances of cruelty towards animals across different areas of the city
