The non-teaching staff at the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, staged a protest on the campus on Tuesday. The protest was against an official inspection of the dog park.
The institution has created an enclosure to hold stray dogs to protect the population of deer on the campus.
Representatives from People for Cattle in India (PFCI), officials from the Animal Husbandry Department, and Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University visited the institute to inspect the animals.
However, upon the arrival of the team, they were confronted by a group of people that asked them to leave as the inspections were stressing out the dogs.
The team visited the campus on Monday but had to leave due to rain.
The staff had med the team and wanted to make a representation. The staff members were present at the gate on Tuesday and followed the team to the enclosure.
