And They Call It Puppy Love: President Joe Biden’s Dog Socks Are A Style Hit

The White House will be welcoming a “first cat” for the first time since George W. Bush’s administration, with first lady Jill Biden confirming last week that a feline pet is “waiting in the wings.” But judging by her husband’s footwear, the president is still Team Dog.

During a visit to Yorktown, Va. on Monday, President Joe Biden bent down to greet a young supporter, a boy wearing a Navy cap. In doing so, he flashed a pair of navy socks featuring a bright blue dog print — a tribute, perhaps, to the first dogs, German shepherds Champ and Major?

It didn’t take the internet long to start buzzing about POTUS’s socks appeal.

“President Biden. In dog socks. With amazing knee flexibility,” read one comment.

“Say what you will about Biden, he’s a compassionate man and wears dog socks,” another Twitter user shared.

It’s not the first time Biden has taken these dog socks out for a walk. They were first spied during an appearance in Delaware on Nov. 23, shortly after his election win, and again in the Oval Office in February. The president was also wearing the socks in a photo posted by Georgia Sen. Jon Ossoff in March.

As one poster noted, Biden isn’t the only world leader with an affinity for quirky socks. Canada Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s sock drawer includes polka-dots, stripes, maple leaves, and Chewbacca prints.
