Raising funds through groups like Rotary Club for Mumbai West Coast and individual donors, over 300 local community dogs were vaccinated against rabies and other health issues at the Mindspace area in Malad (west).
Among the organizers, Swapna Sankhe said, “We began by administering the anti-rabies and 9-in-1 vaccines, and also deworming medicines, to the local canine population in Malad with the help of groups like Save Our Stray groups and Rotary. The issue raising funds for animal welfare is always challenging which is why we have to reach out to philanthropists, NGOs, etc. for this work.”
She also said that many animal feeders, activists do crowdfunding on social networking groups for funds as it is not an easy task to take care of several dogs and cats every day. The purpose of the vaccination drive is to raise awareness about how important animal welfare is and how the lives of humans and animals are interlinked.
