Recently, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has helped facilitate the adoption of 100 stray dogs under the ‘Maa Inti Nestham’ stray dog adoption programme.
What GHMC officials say
The stray dog adoption programme ‘Maa Inti Nestham’ was launched last month and response to the scheme from public in the city was encouraging, GHMC officials said.
There are over 6 lakh street dogs in areas falling under GHMC limits and the veterinary wing had managed to sterilize just about 1 lakh dogs.
Apart from administering anti-rabies vaccination, the veterinary wing also sterilizes the dogs to control stray population in the city.
In its effort to address the dog menace and involve public, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) had recently launched the stray dog adoption programme. Under the scheme, the civic body officials will take care of vaccination and sterilization of the dogs while owners on their part have to provide shelter and take care of them.
