In a social post, Humans of Bombay has shared the heartwarming of a 90-year-old woman who wakes up every morning at 4:30 AM to feed stray dogs in her area.
Kanak was not that big a dog lover until her granddaughter got a puppy into the house. In just a few days, she fell in love with the canine and had a huge change of heart.
The change of heart was so profound that she has been helping and feeding other stray dogs in her area for over two years now.
Humans of Bombay shared the clip that shows Kanak cooking food early morning and feeding dogs near her house. Even though she needs a walker to get around, she never forgets to feed her friends.
“A few years back, my granddaughter, Sana, got Coco, a puppy at our house. And honestly, I never liked dogs; bas nahi pasand the (I just didn’t like them). And I genuinely thought nothing could change my mind. But Coco changed everything. Aur aisa kuch nahi kara tha ussne (He didn’t do anything special) he’d just eat, play, or laze around. But even when he did such simple things, he looked very cute. I couldn’t believe myself when I first said, ‘Kitna pyaara lag raha hai (He looks so cute),’ while looking at him. Mera toh dil aa gaya tha Coco pe (I had had fallen in love with Coco)!” Kanak was quoted as saying by Humans of Bombay.
“And then on, I’d just love feeding him and playing around with him. As years passed, he became a huge part of my life, my days started and ended with him! Even on my 90th birthday, he was right beside me as I cut the cake. But you know, my love didn’t just stay restricted to Coco, I started liking all dogs!” she added.
Kanak further revealed that her granddaughter wanted to start a dog shelter in their area about two years ago. That’s because she was deeply affected when a local dog passed away.
Later, she did start a shelter for stray dogs near her home. Kanak, however, cannot go to the shelter because of her age. But she contributes to the work by cooking pet meals from 4:30 AM.
Despite suffering a fracture in 2021, Kanak has not stopped cooking meals for stray dogs at her granddaughter’s shelter.
“Now, my life revolves around these dogs; my day starts and ends with them! I mean, I’m 90 today and jo bhi karna tha, sab kar liya hai. But now, in my 90s, seeing myself do something I never imagined is also an adventure, no?” said Kanak.
