‘Cheeto’ Safely Rescued After Being Trapped for Three Days with Head in Cheeseball Bucket

A dog, affectionately known as “Cheeto,” found itself in quite a predicament when it got a cheeseball container stuck on its head. After three days of struggling, a kind-hearted individual rescued the poor dog. Now, Cheeto is searching for a permanent home, as a Michigan animal shelter reported.

The emaciated dog, trapped in the plastic bucket without food and water, was picked up by a compassionate person and brought to the Last Stop Animal Rescue & Sanctuary in Carleton, about 35 miles southwest of Detroit.

In a Facebook video, Tom Walsh, who co-owns the shelter with his wife, described the dog’s challenging ordeal. Cheeto had been on the run for an unknown period, but they believe the container had been stuck on his head for three days, pushing him to the brink.

Cheeto appears to be a mix of a Great Pyrenees and a German Shepherd, and he was severely underweight, weighing around 60-70 pounds less than he should. He’s estimated to be around 18 months old.

The sanctuary shared videos of Cheeto arriving at the shelter, showing the dog disoriented and nervous behind the fogged-up Utz Cheese Balls container. Despite his discomfort, he seemed to trust his rescuers. They carefully removed the container using hedge clippers and provided the hungry and thirsty dog with food and water, which he eagerly consumed.

After the ordeal, Cheeto appears to be doing well. He still shows signs of malnourishment with visible ribs, but he’s a wonderful and resilient pup.

While Cheeto was staying with the Walshes, he needed a name. “Jughead” was suggested, but they eventually settled on “Cheeto” as a nod to the snack that led to his predicament in the first place.

In a subsequent video update, the Walshes mentioned that Cheeto understands basic commands like “sit.” However, his fur coat has been damaged, and he may be dealing with various health issues, including worms and carbon monoxide poisoning.

The rescue has initiated a fundraiser to help cover Cheeto’s medical expenses as they continue their search for a loving forever home for him.
