Tyson Continued the Mission After Being Shot in Jammu and Kashmir

In an extraordinary display of courage and loyalty, Tyson, a specially trained Indian Army sniffer dog, has become a national hero after sustaining a bullet injury during a counter-terror operation in Jammu & Kashmir and continuing to assist troops in locating terrorists.

The incident took place in the Chhatroo area of Kishtwar district during an anti-terror operation launched by security forces based on specific intelligence inputs about the presence of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terrorists hiding in the dense forest region. The mission was part of Operation Trashi-I, which aimed to eliminate terrorist activity in the area.

Tyson, a trained German Shepherd attached to the Army’s 2 Para Special Forces unit, was deployed ahead of the troops to track militant movement and detect hidden threats. As the team advanced through thick vegetation toward a suspected hideout, Tyson picked up the scent and moved toward the location.

During the approach, terrorists hiding inside opened fire. A bullet in his leg struck Tyson. Despite the injury, he did not retreat. Instead, he continued to move forward, confirming the exact location of the militants. His action allowed security personnel to engage accurately and launch a decisive assault.

In the ensuing gunfight, three terrorists were neutralized, including a senior commander who had reportedly been active in the region for nearly two years. A cache of arms and ammunition was recovered from the encounter site. Officials described the operation as a significant success in weakening the terrorist presence in the district.

Following the encounter, Tyson was immediately evacuated for medical treatment and taken to the Command Hospital in Udhampur. According to Army officials, he is stable and recovering under close supervision.

The Indian Army’s White Knight Corps later acknowledged Tyson’s bravery, highlighting the role of military working dogs in counter-terrorism operations, especially in difficult terrain like Jammu & Kashmir. These dogs are trained for explosive detection, tracking, and identifying hidden threats, often putting themselves in harm’s way before soldiers do.

Tyson’s courage has drawn widespread admiration across the country. His determination to continue the mission despite being injured stands as a powerful reminder of the vital role service dogs play in national security.

At Dog Express, we salute Tyson, a true hero who proved that bravery knows no species.
