Recently, a dog show was organized by the Chandigarh Kennel Club in Sector 34 where most of all the abandoned pet dogs of good breeds found their forever homes. The dogs were rescued and put up for adoption by the Society for Prevention of Cruelty Towards Animals (SPCA) at the event.
The best news is that despite abundance of exotic dog breeds being sold by breeders, the responsible Tricity residents chose to adopt 10 dogs who were rescued or abandoned.
Dr Kanwarjit Singh, the joint director of animal husbandry said that a total of 16 dogs were brought for adoption in the event.
“We did not have any stray dogs this year for adoption as the ones which were there were injured dogs and could not be given for adoption. But we had three breed dogs who had been abandoned by their owners following their illness. They were now perfectly fine and therefore were put up for adoption,” shared Ishwita Kaur, a volunteer with SPCA.
More than 250 breeds at the dog show
It was a day to celebrate for dog lovers as they got to see more than 250 dogs of different breeds in one place. From Dogo Argentino to Chow Chow, there was a huge variety of dogs at the show.
Chow Chow, French Bull Dog, American Bully, Toy Poodle, Shih Tzu, Pakistani Bully, Pitbull, Akita, Great Dane, Dogo Argentino, Caucasian Shepherd, Central Asian Shepherd, Rough Collies, Standard Poodle, German shepherd (long haired) were some of the dog breeds showed up at the event.
