Recently, two Army dogs named Dot and Misha worked alongside 150 soldiers in a rescue operation at Siachen. Their goal was to find and rescue trapped Indian soldiers during an avalanche. These two dogs helped immensely in the rescue process and an Indian Army officer “Lance Naik Hanamanthappa Koppad” who was buried under tonnes of ice at the height of 19,500 feet was rescued. The bodies of other 9 soldiers were also freed from the ice.
What Happened?
On the third of February, an avalanche covered an Indian Army post in the northern glacier region in Siachen, trapping 10 Indian soldiers under a heavy blanket of ice. Soon the rescue operation began, to look for survivors!
“The rescue teams had the arduous task of breaking through 25-30 ft of blue ice, which is harder than concrete, and had to chip it away inch by inch,” said Army officials explaining the rescue operation.
The lone survivor “Lance Naik Hanamanthappa Koppad” was rescued and provided emergency treatment on the spot and rushed for medical assistance. He was announced critical at that moment!
People came forward and lit candles to pay tribute to the fallen heroes of Siachen.

Lance Naik Hanamanthappa Koppad passed away this morning at 11:45 a.m. at the Army RR Hospital in Delhi.
