Should You Get A Rottweiler Dog In India?

Rottweilers are strong, loyal, and affectionate dog breeds with incredible personalities and appearance. It makes them excellent companions and guard dogs. They love people and want to be with their families as much as they can.

Here are a few things you need to keep in mind while getting a Rottweiler dog in India.

1. Not a right fit for first-time dog owners

If you are a first-time dog owner, we would suggest going for a different breed. Rottweilers require seasoned owners who know how to train a strong dog.

Rottweilers are known for their aggressive and extreme loyalty. They need to be trained and socialized at an early age. Even seasoned dog owners prefer a professional trainer to help train their Rottweiler puppy.

2. They are not apartment dogs

Rottweilers are strong dogs that need a lot of space to train and stretch their legs. They need a lot of exercise on a daily basis for optimum muscle growth and strength.

These dogs also need a good environment and a pleasant climate. They are not fit to live in apartments where there isn’t enough space for them to run, play, or train.

3. Rottweiler dog price in India

They are a pricey breed. In India, the cost of a Rottweiler dog varies from state to state. Since it is an imported breed, the price has gone higher after the government has banned on illegal import of foreign dog breeds in India. The pricing also depends on the breed (pure blood or mix), fur color, origin, etc.

You can get a Rottweiler dog breed in India from a registered breeder from somewhere between Rs. 20K to Rs. 1.25K. The price may vary from state to state, but the dog cost is high and the maintenance of such a dog is somewhere between 7 – 10k per month.

Get a registered puppy

We would recommend you to adopt a dog from a shelter or from NGOs. But in case, you want to buy one, go for a registered breeder.

  • The cost will be high if the puppy is registered with kennel club of India (KCI).
  • The cost will be higher if the puppies from the previous litter have been performing well in national shows.
  • If the parents of the puppy show in registration papers as Champion breeds then the cost will be higher.

There are many stray dogs in India that don’t require much upkeep and can be amazing guard dogs for your home. We would recommend you to help stray dogs in need by adopting them.
