In a shocking incident of animal cruelty, seven puppies less than 2- months old were found dead, allegedly killed with a sharp-edged weapon inside a society in Dwarka’s sector 18 on Aug 20, 2018.
Sever puppies killed
The incident came to light on Monday morning, when an 18-year-old resident found 7 puppies dead and lying on the road with their throat slit. She then contacted Hema Meel, a member of the Dwarka Animal Lovers’ Society (DALS), who stay at the same apartment complex.
Hema claimed the dead puppies were kept in a pattern at the service lane next to the community centre.
“Their throats were cut and many stab wounds were inflicted on their body… we called the police and the civic body,” she said.
An FIR has been lodged
Police have registered a case on the bases of a complaint registered by the local residents and conducted a post-mortem at a local hospital.
“We have registered a case under section 429 of the IPC and section 11L of the Prevention of Animal Cruelty Act,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) Anto Alphonse.
The bodies were taken to a local hospital. A sub-inspector questioned the residents following the incident. The police have also checked the two CCTV cameras installed in the society by the residents but no clue was found in the footage.
Before these puppies, the society had around 15 dogs that were taken care of and fed by the local residents. However, some residents also complained to the head of the society regarding dog menace and claiming that they were bitten by these Indian dog breeds.
“The 15 dogs were already neutered. There is a narrow wall through which two females made their way into the society and gave birth to 11 puppies,” Meel said. Of the 11, seven were killed on Monday morning.
The seven puppies were not neutered and some local residents were trying to find a shelter for them.
