New Delhi: On the account of World Rabies Day, the center on Tuesday launched a national action plan NAPRE to eliminate dog-mediated rabies by 2030. Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying Minister Parshottam Rupala and Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya unveiled the National Action Plan for dog Mediated Rabies Elimination by 2030 (NAPRE).
In an official statement, it was stated that the ministers urged all the UTs and States to make Rabied a notifiable disease. Both the Union ministers also launched the Joint Inter-Ministerial Declaration Support Statement to eliminate dog-mediated rabies from India by 2030 through the One Health Approach.
The National Centre of Disease Control (NCDC) has drafted an action plan in consultation with the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying. Rabies is 100 percent fatal but the vaccine helps to prevent it fully. 33 percent of global rabies deaths are indeed recorded alone in India.
Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying, Sanjeev Kumar Balyan underscored the importance of the One Health approach by pointing out that newer strategies need to be designed for the health challenges of this era, with two-thirds of all present diseases having their origin in animals.
