Katie realised the strong bond between Leia and her father and decided to permanently keep the adorable canine in her second home.
The 2009 film ‘Hachi: A Dog’s Tale’, which made millions of viewers shed tears of sorrow around the world, was inspired by the real-life tale of a Japanese Akita dog, Hachiko, who waited outside a train station for 9 years following his master’s death.
Now, a similar tale of loyalty has been reported from the US, where a loyal German Shepherd, Leia, was seen waiting by the door for her dad to return home from the hospital. The only difference is her dad returned to her and the wait wasn’t long
Back in April, Katie Snyder sent Leia to temporarily live with her father. At that time, she had no idea that her canine would develop a strong bond with her father.
When Katie’s parents were celebrating their 40th anniversary, her father suddenly took ill and had to be rushed to the hospital. Due to the coronavirus restrictions, her father had to stay in the hospital all overnight.
When Katie’s mother got back home from the hospital, she noticed Leia waiting by the door with her head bowed, waiting for her dad to come home.
The mother captured the heartbreaking moment camera and sent it to Katie.
“When she sent me that picture, I immediately burst into tears. It absolutely killed me. I was able to see how much [Leia] truly loved my dad and that she was missing him,” Katie told The Dodo.

Last year, a dog called Mhee was seen waiting patiently by the side of a pond after his owner slipped and drowned. The dog’s owner, Somprasong Srithongkhum, slipped on the bank while turning on a sprinkler. When Somprasong’s cousin went looking for him, he only saw their family dog waiting by the shore with his master’s flip-flops and a flashlight beside him.
