Pet Dog Gets Killed By A Leopard In Kolhapur, Maharashtra

Near the Panhala Fort Area of Kolhapur, a leopard killed a pet dog on Saturday Night.

Since the area is near the forest, locals reported spotting a big cat in the residential area near the fort a few days back. Since then, forest department officials started night patrolling to push the wild animal away and avoid conflicts with the locals. But despite all these efforts, a dog owned by Dr. Raj Holkar was attacked by the leopard. The attack was recorded on the closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera installed outside Holkar’s house.

Dr. Holkar says, “My house is near the Tabak Udyan of the fort and is surrounded by the forest. Wild animals frequently visit the locality.” He has also spotted leopards several times before, and they have attacked his pets on numerous occasions during the night. The incident has shocked the residents near Panhala fort.

Due to the leopard spots, the number of people coming to the Panhala has also gone down. According to forester Vijay Date, leopards are spotted rarely near the fort. Several smaller animals found in the jungle are the main food of the leopards. Since the leopard was spotted, night patrolling is started with the help of residents.
