Lady Gaga’s dog walker named Ryan Fischer has been asking for financial during his cross-country road trip for recovery.
Ryan Fischer is an aspiring artist who was shot in the chest during a dognapping incident in February. He created a GoFundMe to buy a new van.
He is six months into recovery, and his van has been giving trouble for quite some time now.
He wrote in one of his Instagram posts:
“At times, I was scared. I was lonely. I felt abandoned and unsupported. I had long bouts of depression and doubt, and self-pity. But those backroads that took me to desert campsites and Walmart parking lots and rest stops and friends and family to New York and back began to help me see why I had chosen to leave the security of the Hollywood Hills where I fought for my life and mobility.”
He mentioned in the post,
“With the van kaput, no apartment, and having run out of savings and surviving on donations from generous loved ones, I am humbly asking for your help for funding a new ride and other travel expenses. This is not an easy thing to ask, but I have started to realize sharing your vulnerability with others is exactly when radical change begins to occur for everyone involved”.
The campaign has a goal of $40,000 and has raised nearly $5,000 in the first 24 hours. Fischer’s video for the fundraising begins and ends with the sound of a gunshot. But that is his narrative.
In February, he was wounded in the chest while attempting to protect the star’s pets from three assailants on a Hollywood-area sidewalk.
Two of the dogs were kidnapped (but later recovered), and Fischer, who later described his “very close call with death,” was admitted to the intensive care unit. He was well enough to be released weeks later, but he was admitted to the hospital again for a collapsed lung. He underwent surgery to remove a portion of his lung.
Fischer has stated that the emotional component of his trauma recovery has been more challenging than the physical one. He remembers that night not only in his head but also whenever he is asked about it.
Five people were arrested in connection with the dognapping. James Jackson, 18, Jaylin White, 19, and Lafayette Whaley, 27, all of Los Angeles, have been charged with attempted murder, second-degree robbery, and conspiracy to commit robbery. Jackson, the suspected gunman, was also charged with assault with a semiautomatic pistol and felon in possession of a hidden firearm in a vehicle. In contrast, White was charged with assault by means of force likely to cause serious bodily harm.
White’s father, Harold White, and his girlfriend, Jennifer McBride, were also arrested. The senior White was charged with being an accessory after the fact and possessing a handgun with an enumerated past conviction involving a firearm on one count each.
McBride, who returned the dogs in the hopes of obtaining the prize money, was charged with being an accessory after the fact and receiving stolen goods on one count each.
When the crime occurred, Gaga was in Italy working on Ridley Scott’s House of Gucci. She conveyed her love and admiration for Fischer when she offered the incentive for the dogs’ safe return.
She wrote, “I continue to love you, Ryan Fischer. You risked your life to fight for our family. You’re forever a hero.”
Since the canines were recovered, the singer-actress has not talked publicly about the crime.
