Guwahati Gets A Dog Cemetery

Assam, India: We all know how difficult it can be to be separated from your dog, especially if you are unable to say goodbye to your pet properly. In response to this emotion, the Guwahati-based NGO ‘Just Be Friendly’ has launched a programme to bury dogs on the city’s outskirts.

According to the report, the NGO has established a dog burial project in the Mairakuchi district of Guwahati’s outskirts. The burial locations, according to the NGO, were planned on two bighas of land.

JIRAW (JBF Integrated Care and Resource Centre for Animals) is a project that will give a calm, environmentally friendly burial service for a nominal fee, with the option of an inscription on a memorial wall for remembering.

Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) pick-up service is also offered.

The project will also include a facility for birth control operations, which will primarily be used to limit the number of stray dogs in the city.

According to JBF Public Relations Officer Gangotri Borgohain, the NGO will have to invest around Rs 1000 every month for continued ground care.
