In Monee, Illinois, outside a Burger King outlet, a group of people found a dog tied with a heartbroken note paperclipped and called the police.
It mentioned, “Hi, I’m King. I’m a good boy. Love to hug and kiss. Birthday July 22nd, 2018.” The police started the investigation of King’s story.
King stayed a night at the police station and then shifted to the South Suburban Humane Society the next day.
The shelter staff were concerned about King’s past and wondered about the reason, but they didn’t have to wonder for a long time. When King arrived at the shelter shortly after, his mom showed up to tell her story.
King’s mom had to move in with her family after several severe medical issues while she tried to get back on her feet. One of her family members abandoned King, and she was devastated when she found out about it.
When she got to know that King was at the shelter, she brought his favorite toys and treats. She didn’t want to lose the king, but she didn’t know what to do. When she saw the king, she started crying, but the king was so happy after seeing his mom again.
Emily Klehm, CEO of the South Suburban Humane Society, said “It was a very emotional reunion for the two of them,”. “It was evident to our team how much love and affection there is between them, and he was totally overjoyed to see her. She was sobbing as she was telling me all of the things that have happened to her and I had tears streaming down my face. Many of us who work in animal welfare are empaths and it actually hurts our hearts to see people and pets hurting. Everyone on our team wanted to figure out how to help them.”
As King’s mom shared her story, everyone started thinking. If someone could do something — and it didn’t take much time to figure it out.
The spay and neuter clinic manager steps up to foster King while his mom tries to secure a new living situation for the two of them. She was grateful to everyone for the help and was able to relax knowing that the king was safe and well cared for until she figured things out. King is living a loving life in the foster home, and no one can assume how sweet he is.
“Like the note said, he loves to give hugs and kisses and really is a cuddle bug,” Klehm stated. “It’s obvious that he’s been very loved!”
Klehm stated, “Our philosophy is to respond to every situation with empathy and kindness, and we are so glad that our post regarding the situation elicited positive support for King and the reunion,”. “Our goal is to always keep people and pets together because pets are family!”
