Belgian Malinois are herders who grow 22 to 26 inches tall, powerful, and vigilant. They have an honest look about them, as befitting canines built to work really hard for their food.
Sturdy and well-built, but more sleek than heavy. The proud attitude of the breed is characteristic of its looks. Although, however, their coat colors range from a deep fawn to dark mahogany.
According to the American Kennel Club, the black ears and mask highlight brilliant, inquisitive eyes the color of dark Belgian chocolate.
These dogs have great agility, intellect, highly trainable, tenacity, energy, and biting force, according to the Indian Army. They were first used in anti-Naxalite operations by the CRPF. Both the ITPB and the NSG eventually adopted the canines.
It’s worth noting that this is the same breed of dog that tracked down Osama Bin Laden and Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. The CISF recruited these canines in 2018 to deter fedayeen threats both in the Delhi Metro Station and the Indira Gandhi International Airport. In addition, these dogs were previously used in the Kaziranga national park to combat poaching.
The CISF had previously stated that its existing canine squad was capable of tracking explosives, but the Belgian Malinois’ Dogs are capable of detecting suicide bombers. Therefore, the CISF had also carried out experiments to see how talented these dogs were.
Malinois’ that have been appropriately raised and taught are usually lively, smart, loving, loyal, vigilant, and diligent. In addition, Belgian Malinois’ has one of the best energy levels of any dog breed. A typical Malinois will have puppy-like activity until they are three years old, while it is not unusual for them to have this amount of energy until they are five years old.
The Malinois is predominantly bred for defensive purposes, detection, law enforcement, search and rescue, and sports activities such as Schutzhund in Belgium, Germany, the Dutch, and other countries in Europe, as well as the United States, Canada, Australia, and Hong Kong.
