In a shocking act of animal cruelty, beheaded carcasses of five puppies were found in a sewage tunnel at Puranapul, Hyderabad. The locals noticed that something was wrong when they saw that the mother dog was sobbing beside the bodies.
A local resident Kranthi who was taking care of the mother dog and the puppies found the carcasses on after he checked the sewage line.
Hema Bandela, an animal activist who rushed to the spot on receiving information informed that the bodies of the puppies were found but the heads were missing.
“This incident should be treated like a murder case. There are no CCTV cameras in the spot which could help us trace the culprits. This is the most barbaric and the culprits should be booked immediately,” Bandela said.
The incident occurred under Hussaini Alam police station and a case has been registered on Aug 7, 2018.
“We suspect that Kranti who stays close to where the lifeless puppies were found and feeds the dogs on a regular basis might have committed this crime. The person is a habitual alcoholic, so we have taken him for questioning. A case has also been registered for animal cruelty,” said G Shyamsundar, SHO Hussaini Alam police.
A case was registered under Section 428, 429 IPC and 11(l), Prevention of Cruelty Act 1960.
The beheaded puppies were later buried near a burial ground in the area, with the mother dog, according to activist is still loitering around the pipe where the carcasses were found.
