Around 90 Dogs Lost Their Homes On 4th Of July, Now Up For Adoption | US

Around 90 pet dogs were lost and ran away from their homes after the celebrations of 4th of July in the US. These runaway dogs were found and taken to the Franklin County Dog Shelter. The dogs with microchips are on waiting list for their founders to claim. Dog owners can check for their dogs on the list mentioned here – https://dogadoptions.franklincountyohio.gov/.

Remaining dogs are up for adoption.

As per the shelter, these dogs got scared of the loud booms of fireworks during the celebration and ran away.

Now, the shelter is asking the people if in case they’ve lost their dog, they can claim them by today (July 9, 2018). If unclaimed, these dogs will go up for adoption tomorrow (July 10, 2018).

Devon Mann, deputy dog warden, says it is so important for the dogs to get a good home.

“I’ve taken one home myself. I mean it can be very rewarding, it can be very hard, it’s hard to pick up a dog knowing the shelter is full,” Devon says.

Devon has been working with the Franklin County Dog Shelter for more than 5 years and has seen over 1000 dogs in and out of the shelter.

“Out in the field you start to develop a special connection with a lot of these dogs and the places they come from and the things that you see.”

Devon shared the story of Alex, who was found by Columbus Police.

Alex

“Alex was in terrible condition. He was emaciated, very skinny, anemic, he clearly lived outside for a long period of time. He had fly strike really bad on his ears its when dogs are outside (and) it’s hot and flies basically eat the dog’s ears,” Mann says.

Their visible scars show what Alex went through past. He was in foster care through the shelter until he was nursed back to health. He’s now up for adoption. Alex is just one of many who have a story behind these cages.

“It’s amazing.. any dog that I pick up and interact with in the field I keep track of and see where they’re going and what’s going on with them so it’s very rewarding it’s the best part of the job to see a dog go to a family,” Mann says.

The shelter is open today (July 9, 2018)  from 11 am – 7 pm.
