Bengaluru: Recently, a lost dog with a collar was rescued by Sheela Alroy in Sanjaynagar. She is a social media professional and an animal lover. When she saw the lost dog, she instantly knew that it was either strayed from its family or have been abandoned. She tried to pursue the dog to come with her, however, the dog refused to eat or come close to her. It seems like it was being attacked by other strays in the area, Alroy said.
Lost dog rescued with the help of Tailians App
With the help of Bengaluru based pet welfare “Tailians” app on her phone which has an SOS feature, she quickly put up images of the dog with a short description. Within a short time, she started hearing back from animal lovers in the area, offering to help the animal in distress.
“Soon, two seasoned pet handlers came to the scene who not only were able to comfort the scared dog but also helped the dog acclimatize with its surroundings and the strays around. If it wasn’t for them, the dog would have been mauled by the others,” says Alroy, who adds that now the animal has become a part of the local stray family there.
Animal lovers like Alroy who always wanted to help animals in distress but didn’t know who to reach out, now have help at hand, thanks to this amazing app called – Tailians.
Tailians is a location based app for animal rescue that was launched in October as a network that connects pet lovers, owners and services, the app’s highlight is its unique SOS feature. This app is founded by Naresh Shetti, an advertising professional and photographer, and an ex-Amazoner Mithun Raman. This app lets animal lovers sign up to help animals in distress in whatever capacity they can.
“While there are many pet-related apps, there was nothing that catered to help animals in distress. We don’t want to just run an app but build a community of animal lovers, who can reach out and help each other to rescue animals in distress,” says Shetti.
How this app is helpful for animal lovers?
The app lets people nominate themselves as rescuers. When a distress SOS is received, it sends out an alert to those in the area who can then reach out to the person who launched the SOS and help to resolve the distress call. With 1,600 downloads and 1,400 active users across the country, in Bengaluru it has 352 users, with 203 signed up to help during a distress situation. The SOS comes as a great help, says Alroy.
“Sometimes I don’t have emergency numbers on hand and don’t know how to react to animal in distress. But with this feature, I can choose not to be a hapless bystander but take some action,” said Alroy.
