8 Dogs Attack and Bite A Dog Lover In Chandigarh

A dog lover from Sector 11 had a terrifying experience on Tuesday night when a gang of eight stray dogs reportedly encircled and bit her.

Beenu Mann, who has two pet dogs, was attacked by stray dogs while going outside her residence at 11 p.m. on Monday. “I had gone out of my house because I had gotten a call from the United States, and the cell network inside was weak,” she explained.

“Suddenly, two dogs started barking at me. I even tried to communicate with them and shoo them away. However, more stray dogs joined the two and attacked me. The canines surrounded me from all sides and started biting my legs and foot. I kept struggling for about 15 minutes as there was no one around. I am tall, so they could only attack my legs. I was all sweating,” she shared.

“They would have eaten me if not for the man coming from the other side who shooed them away with stones. Such dogs often chase cyclists and other commuters and are a danger to people,” she added.

Beenu stated that she believed the dogs recognized her and would never attack her. However, she requested that the MC take care of the stray dog problem.

“Theoretically, sterilization of all canines in the city and its surrounding regions has to be done within a few days to limit the stray dog population, but realistically it is not possible,” said Senior Deputy Mayor and local councilor Mahehinder Singh Sidhu. Therefore, everyone’s participation is required to assist in locating and sterilizing stray dogs in their region. Also, dog lovers should adopt stray dogs and care for them as pets at home rather than feeding them in public areas, which can threaten bystanders.”
