6 Tips for Buying the Perfect Dog Bed

Like humans, dogs need plenty of rest to stay healthy and get the energy they need to be active and playful during the day.

In general, canines sleep around 12 hours daily. However, this can be shorter or longer, depending on their breed and age.

Since dogs spend a lot of time asleep and it is crucial to their health, you have to get the best bed to ensure they always get quality sleep.

If you are buying a dog bed in Dubai for the first time, follow these tips to get the best one for your pup:

1. Know your Pet’s Weight and Length

Dog beds differ in size and make. A good way to ensure you get the right one for your pup is to take note of his weight and length first.

Step on a weighing scale while holding your pet or let him sit on it and get his weight. If his weight is 18 kilograms or below, a small bed will suffice.

A medium bed is best for dogs weighing between 19 and 27 kilograms while a large one is recommended for pups that weigh 28 to 54 kilograms.

If your dog weighs more than 54 kilograms, you have to get an extra-large bed.

Additionally, use a tape measure and measure your pet from its nose down to its tail. Doing so ensures you get a bed that is not too small for your pup.

Write down your pup’s weight and length so you won’t forget them and you can refer to your notes when it’s time to shop.

2. Think about where you will Place the Dog Bed

Before buying a dog bed, take the time to identify the best place to put it.

Look around your home and think about where you should put the bed. Whether you decide to place it in the living room or an unoccupied bedroom, the one you buy should fit into the available space. ( A dog’s bed should be placed somewhere and see they can be close to the owner or the family in the house, not in another bedroom where there is no one there!)

By taking the time to do this you won’t buy a bed that won’t fit in your dog’s sleeping area or one that is too small so it will look out of place in the room.

3. Prioritize Durability

Some dogs have destructive chewing habits that can cause them to destroy things around them, including their beds.

If your puppy has this bad habit, you have to choose the most durable dog bed you can afford. A fabric bed filled with foam pieces or other cushioning is not a good choice since your pup will chew through it.

A bed built with PVC pipe or aluminum covered with strong canvas-like fabric is a better option for your pup.

4. Consider your Pup’s Sleeping Habits and Needs

Like humans, dogs have certain preferences and needs. If you want your pet to enjoy quality sleep day and night, you also have to take note of their habits and likes.

If your pup stretches his legs as he sleeps, a pillow-type rectangular or oval bed is best for him since it provides ample stretching room.

For dogs that love curling up and nesting, a bumper or lounge bed is the ideal accessory. If you are unsure about the size to get, go for larger ones since a bigger sleeping area is better than a smaller one, which will be uncomfortable for your pet.

Finally, some beds contain cedar chips that many dogs are allergic to. If your pet already has allergies, pick a product that has hypoallergenic filling such as 100% natural cotton or poly-fiber.

5. Select the Right Color

If you want a dog bed that does not look out of place in your interior design, opt for a product with a color that follows your theme or palette.

However, keep in mind that certain colors allow your dog’s fur to show whenever they start shedding. If you can’t clean the bed frequently and don’t want the hair to be easily noticeable, pick a hue that closely matches your pup’s fur to camouflage all the falling hair.

If you want a safe color, choose a neutral grey color or a similar hue since they fit well with most interior designs and can hide a dog’s fur perfectly.

6. Choose a Dog Bed that’s Easy to Clean and Maintain

Lastly, dogs can get a better quality of rest if their bed is spotless and smells good. If you don’t want to spend all your free time washing and tidying up your pet’s sleeping area, find one that is easy to clean.

Choose a bed that has a removable cover that you can take off and pop right into your washing machine every two or three weeks. Moreover, select one that has a washable mattress to prevent fleas and dust mites from settling in it.

Fleas and dust mites can cause allergies and dermatitis not only to your pup but to you and the other residents in your home. As such, you need to keep your dog’s bed free of these pests and allergens by keeping it clean.

A canine bed is one of the best dog supplies you can get online. As long as you shop at the right pet store, you can give your pup a comfy place to sleep at any time of the day.
