Recently, three people from Barvara village have been booked for brutally beating a stray dog to death. The incident came to light after the video of their cruelty act went viral on social media. The act prompted quick intervention of voluntary organization PETA, who urged the Bhesan police to lodge an FIR.
The heinous act
In the video, the trio is seen mercilessly thrashing the dog with bamboo sticks while it was sleeping in a temple. After the dog died, another person dragged the body away and dumped the carcass in the bushes behind the temple.
On the basis of the information given by locals, Police has identified the accused as Dhoha Mori, Rahul Mori and Sagar Mori. They were booked under section 428, 429 and 34 and section 11 (1) (A) of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. The sections entail imprisonment up to five years if convicted.
Sub-Inspector Akash Barasiya said, “During the interrogation, the three claimed that the stray dog had attacked their herd of sheep a few days ago and injured some animal. To take revenge, they ambushed the dog. They beat the dog with sticks and later dumped it in a nearby river.”
He further said,
“What happened to the dog after the attack is a matter of investigation. We have not recovered any carcass of dog from the crime scene nor from the bed of the nearby river. Therefore, at this juncture, we do not know if the dog survived the attack or died.”
Meet Ashar, PETA India emergency response coordinator, said,
“PETA India is calling for the perpetrators to be punished to the fullest extent of the law, including jail time, and for stricter penalties for acts of cruelty against animals, for everyone’s sake.”
