On Wednesday, Mexico’ famed canine unit welcomed a three-month-old German Shepherd gifted by Turkey. This canine unit is trained to find survivors in an earthquake or natural disaster-prone country.
This German shepherd joined the unit after the demise of a Mexican rescue dog, who had been helping in locating survivors of February’s significant earthquake close to the Syrian border.
This black and beige color search puppy has been named ‘Arkadas,’ which means “a friend” in Turkish. Arkadas will help find survivors in areas prone to earthquakes and other natural catastrophes.
An expert who cares for Proteo will train this furball. Proteo was a rescue dog who died in Turkey while on a mission. At a military funeral, he received a tribute from the Mexico Army for his contribution earlier this year.
After a massive earthquake of 7.8 magnitudes near Turkey’s southern border with Syria killed around 54,000 people, Mexico sent rescue dogs to Turkey to locate survivors.
A formal ceremony at a military base was held on Wednesday to welcome Arkadas into the force. He donned a padded green harness with a tiny Mexican flag and his name.
As the speakers blare out Mexico’s national anthem, the exuberant pup couldn’t hold its excitement and let out a series of barks.
