Tragic Death: Man Mauled To Death By Stray Dogs In Aligarh, U.P.

A man was attacked and killed by a pack of stray dogs on Sunday morning while out on a morning walk in the Thana Civil Line area of Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh.

The victim, identified as Safdar Ali, a retired doctor, was walking inside the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) campus when he was attacked by at least seven to eight dogs, according to the local police.

The incident, captured on CCTV and shared on social media, shows the pack of dogs surrounding Ali before attacking him relentlessly. The 65-year-old victim, who was only carrying a mobile phone, succumbed to his injuries.

At 7:30 am, police officers and a dog squad reached the AMU campus. The dead body was sent for post-mortem to confirm the cause of death, according to Superintendent of Police Kuldeep Kumavat.

The incident comes amidst a spate of dog attacks on the public across the state in recent months. As per the latest guidelines issued by the state’s urban development department, pet owners in Uttar Pradesh are required to ensure that their animals do not cause any nuisance in public.

Specific rules were also shared for the local breeders, resident welfare associations, and people who adopt and feed stray dogs in large numbers around residential areas. The updated guidelines were communicated to MC executives and the management of urban local bodies in February.

The incident has caused widespread concern and raised questions about the effectiveness of these guidelines in curbing such incidents in the future.
