A stray dog became a savior for an abandoned baby girl in Lebanon. Someone threw a baby girl into a plastic garbage bag. This incident happened outside the municipal building in Tripoli city.
The dog found the infant and, seemingly aware of her distress, carried her to a safer location, where a passerby noticed the faint cries coming from a black trash bag held in the dog’s mouth. Promptly, a Good Samaritan intervened and brought the child to the Islamic Hospital. Subsequently, she was transferred to the Tripoli Government Hospital, as reported by The National.
Photographs taken during the baby’s medical examination revealed visible red bruises and facial abrasions. Though her exact age and identity are yet to be determined, Twitter users expressed their willingness to adopt her as soon as news of the incident spread.
A Lebanese journalist delved into the motive behind the abandonment, which seemed incomprehensible at first glance. It remains unclear whether the person who abandoned the child had intended to leave her for dead and potentially eaten by dogs or had some other motive. Ghassan Rif, who reported on the incident in Arabic, shed light on suspicions surrounding a woman living near Tripoli’s Al Tal Square. The suspect’s identity, who reportedly vanished during pregnancy and returned after several days, has not been disclosed.
Local media attempted to gather more information by contacting authorities and the medical facility where the baby is currently receiving treatment. However, due to the Islamic New Year, both establishments remained closed on the day of inquiry. The incident adds to a series of reported child abuses in Lebanon, particularly in Tripoli, which has been severely affected by a prolonged economic crisis over the past four years.
